Moon Phases Calendar UK 2027: Every Full and New Moon
All 12 full moons, 13 new moons and every quarter phase for the UK in 2027, with local London times, GMT and BST notes, and the traditional moon names.
SaveEvery moon phase in the UK in 2027, at a glance
This page lists all 49 principal moon phases for 2027 as seen from the United Kingdom, with times given for London in local time — GMT through the winter, British Summer Time between 28 March and 31 October. Because the whole of the UK keeps the same clock, these dates and times apply just as well in Cardiff, Belfast, Glasgow or Penzance. What changes from place to place is when the Moon actually rises above your horizon, not the instant the phase occurs.
A quick note on that instant: a full moon is a single moment, not a night. The Moon looks round and bright for a day either side, so if the listed time falls at three in the morning, the evening before and the evening after will both look full to the eye.

There are twelve full moons in 2027, one in each calendar month. The names in the right-hand column are the popular North American almanac names that have become common in the UK too.
| Date | Time (London) | Name |
|---|---|---|
| Fri 22 January | 12:17 | Wolf Moon |
| Sat 20 February | 23:24 | Snow Moon |
| Mon 22 March | 10:44 | Worm Moon |
| Tue 20 April | 23:27 | Pink Moon |
| Thu 20 May | 11:59 | Flower Moon |
| Sat 19 June | 01:45 | Strawberry Moon |
| Sun 18 July | 16:45 | Buck Moon |
| Tue 17 August | 08:29 | Sturgeon Moon |
| Thu 16 September | 00:04 | Harvest Moon |
| Fri 15 October | 14:47 | Hunter's Moon |
| Sun 14 November | 03:26 | Beaver Moon |
| Mon 13 December | 16:09 | Cold Moon |
Several of these fall in daylight — the Wall Moon of 22 January peaks at lunch time, for instance. That does not spoil anything. Look east around sunset on the same day and you will see a moon that is, for all practical purposes, full.
The best full moons to plan an evening around
- Saturday 20 February, 23:24. A weekend full moon that peaks late in the evening, high in a winter sky. Winter full moons ride highest of the year in the UK.
- Thursday 16 September, 00:04. The Harvest Moon — the full moon nearest the autumn equinox. Around this date the Moon rises only a short while later each night, so you get several evenings of moonrise close to sunset.
- Monday 13 December, 16:09. Peaks just after sunset in midwinter, so it rises already full into a dark late-afternoon sky.
New moons in the UK in 2027
Thirteen new moons fall in 2027, because August gets two. New moon nights are the darkest of the month and the ones to choose for stargazing, meteor showers or photographing the Milky Way from somewhere away from town.

The second new moon in August — 31 August 2027 — is what some people call a Black Moon. It is not an astronomical event in itself, just a quirk of the calendar: the lunar cycle runs about 29.5 days, so occasionally two new moons squeeze into one 31-day month.
Quarter phases, month by month
The first and last quarters are when the Moon shows a clean half-disc. They are the best phases for looking through binoculars or a small telescope, because the low sunlight along the terminator throws long shadows from crater rims and mountains.
| Month | First quarter | Last quarter |
|---|---|---|
| January | 15th, 20:35 | 29th, 10:56 |
| February | 14th, 07:59 | 28th, 05:17 |
| March | 15th, 16:25 | 30th, 01:54 |
| April | 13th, 23:57 | 28th, 21:18 |
| May | 13th, 05:44 | 28th, 14:58 |
| June | 11th, 11:56 | 27th, 05:54 |
| July | 10th, 19:39 | 26th, 17:55 |
| August | 9th, 05:54 | 25th, 03:27 |
| September | 7th, 19:31 | 23rd, 11:21 |
| October | 7th, 12:48 | 22nd, 18:29 |
| November | 6th, 08:00 | 21st, 00:48 |
| December | 6th, 05:22 | 20th, 09:11 |
First quarter is the friendliest phase for anyone with an early bedtime: the Moon is already high in the south at sunset and sets around midnight.

Design yoursGMT, BST and why the times matter
In 2027 the clocks go forward on Sunday 28 March and back on Sunday 31 October. Everything in the tables above already accounts for that, so no adding or subtracting is needed. If you compare this list with an American or Australian site, though, you will sometimes find a different date for the same event — the moment of full moon is the same worldwide, but it lands on either side of midnight depending on the time zone. The full moon of 16 September at 00:04 in the UK, for example, falls on the evening of the 15th in New York.
That is why a moon calendar is only really accurate for one place. Calendars made for the shop are calculated from the city you type in, so the dates, the local times and the phase illustrations all match the sky above your own street rather than a generic one.
Making a 2027 moon calendar for your wall
A year of phases printed and pinned up is a surprisingly practical thing — useful for planning dark-sky nights, sea fishing, garden sowing by the moon, or simply knowing why the sky was so bright walking home.
A few things worth deciding before you print:
- Your town, not London. The difference is small within the UK but real for moonrise times, and it makes the sheet yours.
- Paper size. A2 or A3 reads well from across a room; A4 suits a desk or the inside of a cupboard door. UK print shops handle all three easily.
- Colour. Pale grey moons on off-white sit quietly in a hallway; white on deep navy or black reads like a night sky but uses a lot of ink at home — a copy shop is usually cheaper and gives a flatter finish.
- Paper stock. Something around 160–250 gsm holds up without curling if you are hanging it unframed.
Our custom moon phase calendar is designed in the browser: set the year to 2027, type in your town, choose your colours, and download a print-ready PDF straight away. The yearly version lays the whole twelve months out on a single sheet, which is the one most people frame.
A full moon is one moment. The three nights around it all look the same to your eyes — so if the time in the table is awkward, go out the night before.
